Target Information
ATP synthase is highly conserved across evolution and found in plants, fungi, bacteria, and animals. It is a transmembrane enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of ADP and phosphate to ATP, driven by proton flux across the membrane during electron transfer.
The enzyme comprises two main sections:
- F1 ATP-ase (soluble): alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon subunits
- F0 ATP-ase (membrane embedded): a, b, c subunits
