Target Information

CD146 (MCAM) is an integral membrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily.
It is expressed at cell-cell junctions in all endothelial cells and in various normal and malignant cell types.
CD146 functions as a calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule and may also act as a signal transduction molecule, recruiting Fyn kinase and promoting tyrosine phosphorylation of intracellular proteins involved in actin cytoskeleton assembly.
It plays a role in endothelial cohesion and vascular integrity and may facilitate melanoma cell interaction with vascular elements, promoting tumor spread.
Additionally, CD146 may function as an adhesion molecule in neural crest cells during embryonic development and act as a surface receptor that triggers tyrosine phosphorylation of FYN and PTK2, leading to transient increases in intracellular calcium levels.
