This antibody detects endogenous protein at a molecular weight of approximately 50 kDa.
Purity is >95% by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
The sarcoglycan transmembrane proteins are members of the dystrophin complex. Sarcoglycans form a complex localized in the cell membrane of skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle fibers. Four subunit proteins—alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-sarcoglycan—constitute the complex on the muscle cell surface.
Genetic defects in any of these proteins lead to loss or reduction of the sarcoglycan complex, associated with autosomal recessive muscular dystrophy (sarcoglycanopathy).
In smooth muscle, beta- and delta-sarcoglycans associate with epsilon-sarcoglycan, homologous to alpha-sarcoglycan. A deficiency in delta-sarcoglycan causes the Syrian hamster BIO.14 cardiomyopathy.
