Target Information
Rap1GAP specifically stimulates the GTP hydrolytic activity of the monomeric G protein Rap1.
It interacts physically with G alpha z, a Gi family member, modulating GTP hydrolysis and adenylyl cyclase inhibition.
Rap1GAP is expressed in the brain, kidney, and pancreas, acting as a signal integrator coordinating Gz and Rap1 signaling.
A novel isoform, Rap1GAPII, binds specifically to G alpha z. Activation of the Gi-coupled M2 Muscarinic receptor translocates Rap1GAPII to the membrane, reducing GTP-bound Rap1 and activating ERK/MAPK signaling.
