Target Information
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key regulator of blood vessel development in embryos and angiogenesis in adult tissues.
Unlike VEGF, the related VEGFC stimulates lymphatic vessel growth through its specific lymphatic endothelial receptor VEGFR-3.
Inactivation of VEGFR-3 gene in mice leads to defective blood vessel development and cardiovascular failure at embryonic day 9.5, indicating VEGFR3’s essential role in embryonic cardiovascular system development prior to lymphatic vessel formation.
