Target Information
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key regulator of blood vessel development in embryos and angiogenesis in adult tissues.
VEGFC, a related factor, stimulates lymphatic vessel growth via its specific lymphatic endothelial receptor VEGFR-3.
Inactivation of the VEGFR-3 gene in mice leads to defective blood vessel organization and cardiovascular failure at embryonic day 9.5.
Thus, VEGFR3 plays an essential role in embryonic cardiovascular development before lymphatic vessel formation.
