The monoclonal antibody HM47 recognizes the cytoplasmic domain of CD79a (mb-1), a 47 kDa membrane glycoprotein that associates with CD79b to form the heterodimeric B cell receptor (BCR). This receptor mediates B cell signaling, leading to activation, apoptosis, or anergy. CD79a is expressed from pre-B cells to plasma cells and is a reliable marker for B cells, including neoplasms.

Target Information

CD79a forms a disulphide-linked heterodimer with CD79b (B29) and is a critical component of the B-cell antigen receptor complex. It appears at the pre-B cell stage and persists until the plasma cell stage as an intracellular component. CD79a is expressed in most precursor B-cell leukemias, B-cell lines, lymphomas, and some myelomas, but absent in myeloid or T-cell lines.
