Target Information

BMPR2 is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) receptor family of transmembrane serine/threonine kinases. The ligands of this receptor are BMPs involved in endochondral bone formation and embryogenesis.
Loss of interaction and lack of phosphorylation of TCTEL1 by BMPR2 may contribute to the pathogenesis of primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH). BMPR2 also plays an essential role in human T-cell differentiation.
BMPs transduce signals through heteromeric complexes of type I (50–55 kDa) and type II (70–80 kDa) serine/threonine kinase receptors. Type II receptors bind ligands independently but require type I receptors for signaling, while type I receptors need type II receptors for ligand binding.
Mutations in BMPR2 are associated with primary pulmonary hypertension (familial and fenfluramine-associated) and pulmonary venoocclusive disease.
