The monoclonal antibody eBioNL07 recognizes human CD36, a member of the class B scavenger receptor family. CD36 is a platelet-membrane glycoprotein (glycoprotein IV) and a receptor for thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) and extracellular matrix proteins. Expression includes microvascular endothelium, adipocytes, skeletal muscle, dendritic cells, epithelial cells of retina, breast, intestine, smooth muscle, and hematopoietic cells such as erythroid precursors, platelets, monocytes/macrophages, DCs, and megakaryocytes.

Unlike other scavenger receptors, CD36 binds LDL under minimally oxidizing conditions and functions as a fatty acid translocase (FAT), essential for long-chain fatty acid transport, potentially playing a role in atherosclerosis.

Target Information

CD36 (Scavenger Receptor Class B Member 3) is expressed on macrophages, platelets, adipocytes, and other cell types. It plays roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, mediating recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 also serves as a receptor for thrombospondin and mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations can lead to platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Associated diseases include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
