Target Information
This gene encodes a homeobox-containing transcription factor involved in heart formation and development. Mutations in this gene are associated with atrial septal defect with atrioventricular conduction defect and tetralogy of Fallot, both of which are heart malformation diseases. Additionally, mutations can cause congenital hypothyroidism non-goitrous type 5, a non-autoimmune condition. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
