Target Information
NRF1 encodes a transcription factor that homodimerizes and activates the expression of key metabolic genes regulating cellular growth, respiration, heme biosynthesis, and mitochondrial DNA transcription/replication. It is also associated with neurite outgrowth regulation. Alternate splice variants encoding the same protein have been characterized, while additional isoforms remain incompletely described. Note that confusion may arise in databases due to the shared symbol NRF1 with nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 1 (NFE2L1).
