Target Information
Neuropilin 1 is a 923 amino acid membrane-bound coreceptor belonging to the neuropilin family. It contains two CUB domains, two F5/8 type C domains, and a MAM domain. Neuropilin 1 forms a heterodimer with Neuropilin 2 (NRP2) and binds to plexin (PLXNB1) to form semaphorin receptors.
It is primarily expressed in the nervous system and is involved in cardiovascular development, angiogenesis, axon guidance, neuronal circuit formation, cell survival, neuronal migration, and organogenesis.
Neuropilin 1 functions as a receptor for both semaphorins and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), regulating VEGF-induced angiogenesis. It may be implicated in aggressive prostate carcinoma and breast cancer progression.
