Target Information
The C/EBP (CCAAT/enhancer binding protein) family of transcription factors—alpha, beta, delta, and epsilon—are widely expressed in various tissues. These proteins contain an evolutionarily conserved five-amino acid motif (RDM: (I/V/L)KXEP), which plays a role in metabolic regulation in liver and adipose tissue.
C/EBP transcription factors function in cascades that facilitate adipocyte differentiation. Multiple C/EBP beta isoforms (LAP*, LAP, LIP) arise from alternative translation initiation and have distinct roles in gene regulation.
In the nervous system, C/EBPs are involved in nerve growth factor mediation, synaptic plasticity, and inflammatory responses associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
