Target Information
Cytokeratin 8 is a type II keratin located on the long arm of chromosome 12. Type I and II keratins form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 8 typically dimerizes with keratin 18 to form intermediate filaments in simple epithelial cells. This protein contributes to cellular structural integrity and participates in signal transduction and differentiation. Mutations in this gene are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
