Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) is crucial in lipid metabolism and forms part of various plasma lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, with high concentrations in interstitial fluids. Apo E facilitates cholesterol distribution between cells and contributes to the formation of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicrons.
The Apo E gene is located on chromosome 19 (19q13.2).
