Product Specific Information

  • In sandwich ELISAs, approximately 10% cross-reactivity with recombinant human (rh) Cystatin D is observed.
  • Less than 2% cross-reactivity with rhCystatin S/A, rhCystatin A, recombinant mouse (rm) Cystatin B, rhCystatin S/N, and rmCystatin E/M is observed.
  • Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.

Target Information

Cystatin C, a member of the type 2 cystatin superfamily, is a potent inhibitor of cysteine proteinases, including both endogenous lysosomal cathepsins and pathogenic proteases. It is a 13 kDa secreted protein found in high concentrations in biological fluids and expressed by all human nucleated cells.
Alterations in Cystatin C levels have been associated with cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, amyloid angiopathy, and myocardial infarction. Due to its low molecular weight, Cystatin C is also used as a marker of renal failure.
