Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids.
FARS2 encodes a mitochondrial phenylalanine-tRNA synthetase (PheRS) consisting of a single polypeptide chain, unlike the (alpha-beta)₂ structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cytoplasmic PheRS.
Structural and catalytic analyses suggest mitochondrial PheRSs form a distinct class of enzymes from those in prokaryotes and the eukaryotic cytoplasm.
