Target Information
In response to adverse environmental changes, cells increase expression of heat shock or stress proteins.
HSPB1 (HSP27) is a small heat shock protein acting as a molecular chaperone to maintain denatured proteins in a folding-competent state.
It contributes to stress resistance and actin organization, and regulates biological processes such as phosphorylation and axonal transport of neurofilament proteins.
Mutations in the HSPB1 gene can cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease 2F and distal hereditary motor neuronopathy 2B.
