Target Information

Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are key components of potassium currents in the heart and central nervous system.
In the heart, Kv4 channels are involved in the repolarization phase of the action potential.
In the brain, these channels prevent reverse-propagation of action potentials.

KChIPs (Kv channel interacting proteins) are calcium-binding proteins associated with Kv4 channels that modulate their function.
Three known KChIPs include:

• KChIP1: Expressed in the brain
• KChIP2: Expressed in brain, heart, and lung (three isoforms: a, b, c)
• KChIP3: Also known as calsenilin and DREAM, expressed in brain and testis

KChIP3 binds to regulatory DRE elements and represses transcription from the early-response gene c-fos, functioning as a DNA-binding transcriptional regulator.
It is also associated with presenilins and implicated in β-amyloid formation.
