Trefoil family 단백질은 최소 하나 이상의 trefoil motif(40개 아미노산, 3개의 보존된 이황화 결합 포함)를 가지며, 위장관 점막에서 발현되는 안정적인 분비 단백질입니다. 이들은 점막 보호, 점액층 안정화, 상피 회복에 관여할 수 있습니다. TFF1 유전자는 위점막에서 발현되며, 인간 종양에서의 발현 연구에도 사용됩니다. 관련된 trefoil family 유전자는 염색체 21의 클러스터에 위치합니다.
