Trefoil family 단백질은 최소 하나의 trefoil 모티프(40 아미노산 도메인, 3개의 보존된 이황화 결합 포함)를 가지며, 위장관 점막에서 발현되는 안정한 분비 단백질입니다. 이들은 점막 보호, 점액층 안정화, 상피 치유에 관여할 수 있습니다.
TFF1 유전자는 위 점막에서 발현되며, 인간 종양에서의 발현과 관련된 연구가 진행되었습니다. 이 유전자와 관련된 두 개의 trefoil family member 유전자는 염색체 21에 클러스터 형태로 존재합니다.
