Target Information
PTGS1 (COX1, Cyclooxygenase 1) is the key enzyme in prostaglandin biosynthesis, acting both as a dioxygenase and as a peroxidase. There are two isozymes of PTGS: constitutive PTGS1 and inducible PTGS2, differing in regulation and tissue distribution.
PTGS1 regulates angiogenesis in endothelial cells and is inhibited by NSAIDs such as aspirin. It is involved in cell-cell signaling and maintaining tissue homeostasis.
Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants, differentially regulated by cytokines and growth factors.
