Target Information
Actin is a ubiquitous protein involved in filament formation that constitutes a major portion of the cytoskeleton. Actin filaments interact with myosin to assist in muscle contraction, cell motility, and cytokinesis.
In vertebrates, actin isoforms are divided into three groups: alpha, beta, and gamma. Alpha actins are found in muscle tissues and form the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins coexist in most cell types as cytoskeletal components and mediators of internal cell motility.
