Target Information

NMDAR2B is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. NMDA receptors (NMDAR) are involved in long-term potentiation, an activity-dependent increase in synaptic transmission efficiency associated with learning and memory.
NMDAR2B plays a role in neuronal development and is implicated in several central nervous system disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death. Overexpression of the NR2B subunit is linked to enhanced learning and memory, whereas reduced NR2B expression is observed in aged, memory-impaired animals.
Phosphorylation at Tyr1472 may increase NMDAR expression at the synapse, contributing to synaptic plasticity. NMDR2B is a heterotrimer composed of NR1, NR2, and NR3 subunits. Dysfunction of NMDAR2B is associated with epileptic encephalopathy and autosomal dominant 6-related mental retardation.
