Target Information

The membrane-associated protein encoded by the ABCB6 gene is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies. ABCB6 belongs to the MDR/TAP subfamily, which is involved in multidrug resistance and antigen presentation. This half-transporter likely contributes to mitochondrial function. The gene, localized to chromosome 2q26, is considered a candidate for lethal neonatal metabolic syndrome, a mitochondrial disorder.
