Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of the CD4 antigen, a 55 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on a subset of T lymphocytes (“helper” T-cells) and also on monocytes, tissue macrophages, and granulocytes.

Target Information

The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T helper cells but can also be found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is observed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 plays a key role in initiating or enhancing T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck. It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
