Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD16, a low affinity receptor for aggregated IgG (FcgammaRIII antigen).
CD16 exists in two isoforms:
- CD16a (FcgammaRIIIA): 50–65 kDa, expressed on NK cells, monocytes, macrophages
- CD16b (FcgammaRIIIB): 48 kDa, mainly expressed on neutrophils
Target Information
CD16 encodes a receptor that recognizes the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G and is involved in clearance of immune complexes and cellular mediated cytotoxicity.
The gene FCGR3A shares high similarity with FCGR3B on chromosome 1.
- FCGR3A: expressed on NK cells, membrane-anchored
- FCGR3B: expressed on polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN), PI-anchored
Mutations in FCGR3A are associated with Immunodeficiency 20, Herpes Zoster, and susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus and recurrent viral infections.
Alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms.
