Product Specific Information

Sheep anti-Human fibrinogen antibody recognizes human fibrinogen, a complex approximately 340 kDa hetero-hexameric (di-trimeric) glycoprotein consisting of three pairs of alpha, beta, and gamma chains linked by a series of 29 disulfide bonds (Henschen et al., 1983).


Target Information

Fibrinogen, the precursor of fibrin, is the coagulable protein in the blood plasma of vertebrates. Following vascular injury, fibrinogen is cleaved by thrombin to form fibrin, the most abundant component of blood clots.
Fibrinogen consists of a dimer of three pairs of non-identical chains (FGA, FGB, FGG) cross-linked by disulfide bonds in their N-terminal segments. The molecule has two terminal D domains and one central E domain, which are separated when fibrinogen is degraded by plasmin.
Mutations in this gene can lead to disorders such as dysfibrinogenemia, afibrinogenemia, and renal amyloidosis.
