Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene are associated with tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer.
Chromosomal rearrangements often create fusion genes, notably NPM-ALK, which produce oncogenic proteins. ALK encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase with transmembrane and extracellular domains, and shares high sequence similarity with LTK.
ALK plays an essential role in neuronal development and function within the nervous system.
