Target Information
Ki-67 is a nuclear protein expressed during various stages of the cell cycle, particularly in late G1, S, G2, and M phases. It contains a forkhead-associated (FHA) domain that mediates association with euchromatin, centromeric heterochromatin, and the nucleolus. Ki-67 exhibits cell cycle–dependent localization: perinucleolar in G1, nuclear matrix in G2, and chromosomal during M phase. Because Ki-67 is absent in G0 cells but increases from G1 through mitosis, it serves as a reliable proliferation marker. Ki-67 antibodies are widely used to determine the proliferative fraction in neoplasms, correlating with tumor grade and prognosis. It is also a common neuronal marker of cell cycling and proliferation.
