Target Information
Cyclin T1 encodes a member of the highly conserved cyclin C subfamily. This protein associates with cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9) to form the positive transcription elongation factor b (p-TEFb) complex. This complex acts as a cofactor for HIV-1 Tat protein and is essential for viral transcription activation. It also regulates transcript elongation by phosphorylating the C-terminal domain of RNA polymerase II. Overexpression of Cyclin T1 is implicated in tumor growth. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
