Target Information
Cyclin T1 encodes a member of the highly conserved cyclin C subfamily. The protein associates with cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9) and forms a major subunit of positive transcription elongation factor b (p-TEFb).
This complex acts as a cofactor of HIV-1 Tat protein, essential for full activation of viral transcription.
Cyclin T1 and CDK9 also phosphorylate the carboxy-terminal domain of RNA polymerase II, promoting transcript elongation.
Overexpression of Cyclin T1 is implicated in tumor growth.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
