Target Information
Defensins are a family of antimicrobial and cytotoxic peptides involved in host defense. They are abundant in neutrophil granules and epithelial tissues such as the intestine, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and vagina. Members of the defensin family share conserved cysteine motifs and are clustered on chromosome 8. Defensin alpha 5 is highly expressed in the secretory granules of Paneth cells in the ileum.
