Target Information

L1CAM/CD171 is an axonal glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin supergene family. Its ectodomain contains multiple immunoglobulin-like and fibronectin type III domains, connected via a transmembrane sequence to a conserved cytoplasmic domain. This molecule is crucial for nervous system development, including neuronal migration and differentiation. Mutations in L1CAM cause X-linked neurological disorders collectively referred to as CRASH syndrome (corpus callosum hypoplasia, retardation, aphasia, spastic paraplegia, and hydrocephalus). Alternative splicing of neuron-specific exons is functionally significant.
