Antibody detects endogenous levels of total IFI16.
Target Information
IFI16 (gamma-interferon-inducible protein 16) binds double-stranded DNA, preferentially to supercoiled and cruciform DNA structures. It is involved in transcriptional regulation and may act as a transcriptional repressor. IFI16 plays a role in hematopoietic differentiation by activating unknown target genes and modulates cell cycle regulatory factors such as p53/TP53 and retinoblastoma protein.
It also participates in innate immune response by recognizing viral dsDNA in the cytosol and nucleus. Upon binding viral DNA, IFI16 recruits TMEM173/STING to induce IFN-beta production and activates the IFR3 signaling cascade during HSV-1 infection. Additionally, IFI16 promotes heterochromatin assembly on herpesviral DNA, inhibiting viral gene expression and replication.
IFI16 is further implicated in MTA1-mediated epigenetic regulation of ESR1 expression in breast cancer.
