Product Specific Information

A 1:5000 dilution of MA5-45325 was sufficient for detection of ubiquitin conjugates in 2.5 µg of HeLa cell lysate by electrochemiluminescence analysis using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects polyubiquitinated proteins and ubiquitin chains. Does not detect monoubiquitinated proteins nor free ubiquitin.

Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein involved in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to an unrelated protein.
The gene encodes a fusion protein consisting of ubiquitin at the N-terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C-terminus. When expressed in yeast, the protein is post-translationally processed to generate free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a.
Ribosomal protein S27a is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, containing C4-type zinc finger domains and localized in the cytoplasm. Pseudogenes derived from this gene are present in the genome.
Similar fusion proteins include ribosomal protein L40 (with ubiquitin) and ribosomal protein S30 (with ubiquitin-like protein fubi). Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
