Target Information
ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone) is a hormone that stimulates the adrenal cortex. It is derived from the precursor proopiomelanocortin (POMC), which also yields MSH and beta-endorphin. ACTH is secreted by the anterior pituitary in response to corticotropin-releasing hormone from the hypothalamus and promotes glucocorticoid (e.g., cortisol) secretion.
