This antibody detects endogenous levels of eIF4E only when phosphorylated at Thr210.
Target Information
eIF4E is involved in several cellular processes including enhanced translational efficiency, splicing, mRNA stability, and RNA nuclear export. All eukaryotic cellular mRNAs are blocked at their 5′ ends with the 7-methylguanosine cap structure, m7GpppX (where X is any nucleotide).
EIF4E is a eukaryotic translation initiation factor that directs ribosomes to the cap structure of mRNAs. It is a 24-kDa polypeptide existing as both a free form and as part of the EIF4F multiprotein complex.
EIF4E is the rate-limiting component of the eukaryotic translation apparatus and is involved in the mRNA–ribosome binding step of protein synthesis. Other subunits of EIF4F include EIF4A (50 kDa, ATPase and RNA helicase activities) and EIF4G (220 kDa).
