Target Information
P-selectin (Selectin P, GMP-140, LECAM3, CD62 antigen-like family member) is a 140 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein involved in cell rolling regulation. It is stored in Weibel-Palade bodies of endothelial cells and α-granules of platelets and rapidly translocates to the cell surface upon activation by thrombin, histamine, complement 5a, Ca²⁺ ionophores, or ADP.
P-selectin mediates interactions between activated endothelial cells or platelets and leukocytes, playing a critical role in leukocyte-endothelial adhesion. It is a calcium-dependent receptor that binds sialylated Lewis blood group carbohydrate antigens on neutrophils and monocytes.
P-selectin is constitutively expressed during inflammation and contributes to atherogenesis, thrombosis, and tissue destruction. Clinically, it helps distinguish heparin-induced thrombocytopenia with and without thrombosis.
