Target Information
MAOB (Monoamine Oxidase B), also known as MAO, BRAIN, AMINE OXIDASE (FLAVIN-CONTAINING) B, is encoded by the MAOB gene located on Xp11.3.
MAOB catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic amines, playing an essential role in the metabolism of neuroactive and vasoactive amines in both the central nervous system and peripheral tissues.
This enzyme preferentially degrades benzylamine and phenylethylamine and also acts on dopamine.
MAO-B inhibition enhances dopamine activity and reduces hydrogen peroxide production, contributing to decreased reactive oxygen species formation.
