Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Goat Serum as well as purified and partially purified Capsular Reactive Protein (CRP) [Human Serum].
Cross-reactivity against CRP from other tissues and species may occur but has not been specifically determined.

Target Information

CRP (C-reactive protein) is a major cyclic, pentameric acute-phase protein consisting of five identical, noncovalently bound, nonglycosylated subunits. Each subunit comprises 206 amino acids with a molecular weight of approximately 24 kDa.
CRP is synthesized by the liver, and its plasma concentration rises markedly during inflammatory processes. It acts as an initiator of the classical complement cascade, binds to nuclear components such as chromatin and histones, and plays a key role in innate immunity.

CRP levels can increase 100–1000 fold in response to injury, infection, or inflammation. It functions as an opsonin, activates monocytes/macrophages, and participates in host defense by recognizing pathogens and damaged cells. Elevated basal CRP levels are associated with increased risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
