The solute carrier (SLC) family, also known as the neurotransmitter transporter family, is one of the largest transporter families in the human genome.
The SLC6 subgroup includes dopamine transporter (DAT), serotonin transporter (SERT), and norepinephrine transporter (NET), which are sodium/chloride-dependent, high-affinity plasma transport proteins.
SLC6A18 (solute carrier family 6 member 18), also known as XTRP2, is a 628 amino acid member of the SLC family composed of 12 exons, 11 introns, and 8 tandem repeats.
Highly expressed in the kidney, SLC6A18 is classified as an orphan transporter.
