This antibody detects the pro form of human or mouse Meprin beta Subunit/MEP1B in Western blots.
It does not react with the mature form.
Reconstitute at 0.5 mg/mL in sterile PBS.

Target Information

Meprins are multidomain zinc metalloproteases highly expressed in mammalian kidney, intestinal brush border membranes, leukocytes, and certain cancer cells.
They hydrolyze various peptide and protein substrates and are implicated in cancer and intestinal inflammation.
Mature meprins are oligomers of separately encoded alpha and/or beta subunits:

• Homooligomers of alpha subunit are secreted.
• Oligomers containing the beta subunit are plasma membrane-bound.

The MEP1B gene encodes the beta subunit.
Targeted disruption in mice affects embryonic viability, renal gene expression profiles, and distribution of the membrane-associated alpha subunit in kidney and intestine.
