Target Information
The Hox proteins are a family of transcription factors that regulate downstream target genes involved in development and cellular differentiation. They direct DNA-protein and protein-protein interactions that determine morphologic features along the anterior-posterior body axis.
HoxD12 (homeobox D12), also known as HOX4H, is a 275 amino acid nuclear protein containing one homeobox DNA-binding domain. It functions as a sequence-specific transcription factor critical for proper positioning of developing limb buds along the anterior-posterior axis.
Hox proteins are implicated in axial patterning, leukemias, and hereditary malformations.
