SUCLG1 유전자는 이합체 효소 succinate coenzyme A ligase의 알파 서브유닛을 암호화합니다. 이 효소는 미토콘드리아에 위치하며, succinyl CoA와 ADP 또는 GDP를 succinate와 ATP 또는 GTP로 변환하는 반응을 촉매합니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 치명적인 영아 젖산산증(fatal infantile lactic acidosis)과 미토콘드리아 DNA 결핍증을 유발할 수 있습니다.
