이 유전자는 AMPK γ 서브유닛 패밀리에 속하며, 4개의 cystathionine β-synthase 도메인을 가진 단백질을 암호화합니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 Wolff-Parkinson-White 증후군, 진행성 전도계 질환, 심근비대와 관련이 있습니다.
다양한 전사 스플라이스 변이체가 존재하며, 서로 다른 아이소폼을 암호화합니다.
