Target Information
Thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG), transthyretin, and albumin are responsible for carrying thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) in the bloodstream.
The SERPINA7 gene encodes TBG, the major thyroid hormone transport protein in serum. Although it belongs to the serpin family, TBG lacks inhibitory function.
Mutations in this gene cause TBG deficiency, classified as partial, complete, or excess based on serum levels. Alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, though their full-length forms are not fully characterized.
