ACTC1 단백질은 세포 운동성에 관여하는 고도로 보존된 액틴 단백질군의 일원입니다. 구형 액틴(G-actin)의 중합은 이중 나선 구조의 섬유상 액틴(F-actin)을 형성하며, 각 액틴은 네 개의 다른 액틴과 결합할 수 있습니다.
이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 알파, 베타, 감마 세 가지 주요 액틴 아이소폼 그룹 중 알파 액틴에 속하며, 근육 조직에서 발견되어 수축 장치의 주요 구성 요소로 작용합니다.
이 유전자의 결함은 특발성 확장성 심근병증(IDC) 및 가족성 비후성 심근병증(FHC)과 관련이 있습니다.
