EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor)는 다양한 성장 인자에 반응하여 신호를 전달하는 수용체 티로신 키나아제입니다. 과발현은 여러 유형의 암과 관련되어 있으며, EGFR은 생물학적 및 소분자 치료제의 표적입니다. 인간에서는 염색체 7에 위치한 EGFR 유전자에 의해 암호화되며, HER/ERbB 단백질 패밀리(ERbB2, ERbB3, ERbB4 포함)에 속합니다. EGF(Epidermal Growth Factor)나 TGF-α(Transforming Growth Factor alpha) 등의 리간드가 세포외 도메인에 결합하면 EGFR 이합체화가 일어나고, 세포질 도메인의 티로신 잔기들이 자가 인산화됩니다. 이러한 과발현은 두경부, 뇌, 방광, 위, 유방, 폐, 자궁내막, 자궁경부, 외음부, 난소, 식도 및 편평세포암 등 다양한 종양에서 관찰됩니다.
