Target Information
Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes that are stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC). T-cell activation is self-limited through receptors such as PD-1 (PDCD-1), which mediate inhibitory signals. PD-1 binds ligands PDL-1 and PDL-2, resulting in suppression of immune activation in the absence of danger signals. PD1-deficient mice exhibit hyperactivated immune systems and autoimmune diseases. PD-1 often migrates at higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE despite its predicted molecular weight.
